Arena Net! PLEASE do something about this.
Spamming your trades in the local channel.
PLEASE!!!!!!!!
I am sick and tired of having to turn off the local chat every time I go into a city because people are spamming their trades in there.
The trade channel is there for a reason!
People say
"Nobody uses the trade channel"
Well, If they are selling, buying, or trading, YES THEY ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's gotten to be the absolute most annoying part of this game.
By far.
I say anyone who tries to type "WTS" "WTB" "SELLING" "BUYING" At the start of a sentence in the local channel gets a warning message (Incase it was by accident at first) And then if they do it again, their accounts get banned and all their items are dropped onto the ground. Free for all!
But seriously, just don't allow the aforementioned words to be typed in the local channel. Just like when you guys nerfed the /ROLL command in towns and stuff. If they type anything to do with selling and/or trading. They get an error message.
Also, let us report people who figure out a way around it.
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be a good idea, but surely people would just start saying different words instead for trading and keep changing...

Yes, I said that.
So we should be able to report them.
Or simply update the list.
Also, make it cost 100g to type anything in the trade channel.
I really don't understand the ignorance and stupidity of people.
It's the trade channel! Why on earth won't they use it?
Gosh its annoying.
You know what sucks? You go from beautiful Pre-searing ascalon on your very first character, into the ugly seared ascalon, you are excited, you've started playing guildwars!
Only to be MOBBED with spam from the local channel.
"Wait, this is what this game is like?"

Are you trying to encourage the use of the trade channel or not?
Otherwise I think it would be great to get the trade chat into the trade channel where it belongs. It would best be implemented simply by filtering the chat rather than any kind of penalty.

Bad idea for the 100g maybe the error thingie but It would probarly simply get avoided so just stop whining and just uncheck the trade and local channel. Just 'cuz u never trade doesn't have to affect the majority of players that do so. Btw they use local channel to make it stand out more. Or simply change districts (As it barely happens in any mission towns and u can easily see what ppl are saying).
~ Wheez.

The logic behind the local channel spam is quite simple. Most if not everyone has his Trade Channel turned off if he or she is not trading. Why? Because it will simply spam all your channels.
However in the mind of the traders (not only in the game) there is NO sanctuary for those that don't want to trade. So they simply started spamming the Local Chat, just because a broader scope of people would read their crap. And as soon as people turned Local Chat off, they started the whispering and random trade requesting.
Nothing... NOTHING will ever stop them from annoying others just to sell their goods.

yeah, they cant stop it. if they implement away to stop it- ie word restrictions, people would just get around them.
My advice, wait 'til chapter 2 comes out for your problem to be "somewhat" fixed. The frog has said i think a couple of times there would be some sort of auction house or another. I am saying somewhat because if there is still both an auction house type thing, and a trade channel, your problem will never go away.
Last, this is for those who auction items, do people buy your items anymore? Cant anyone pretty much reasonable get whatever they need without having to buy it from someone?
I guess that discussion goes into an entirely different conversation about how unimportant the economy is in GW....

It may well be the most annoying part of PVE. That is, the horrible trading system.
The devs need to fix this with an Auction House so that spamming in a channel (be it trade or local) is not necessary to trade your items.
It would not fix anything to try to put restrictions on the local channel. Nor should they try to. It's not the players' fault that they have to make do with a very horrible trading system. Using the trade channel is a quick way to give yourself a real-life migraine. You can't expect players to do that to themselves just to participate in trading.

That is by far the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. "If" A-Net implements an auction house it might help with the problem, but even if one is made that still won't stop people from spamming the channels. Think about it, there really isn't a good way to handle the problem. If people want to do something they will find a way to do it.

If they add an auction house, they can remove the trade button. If they remove the trade button, they can remove the trade channel too.
There will be no need to ever say, WTS or WTB again.
Loophole: Group with a trader, go out of town, drop your item for another item.
Solution - with the exception fo quest items, all items are disrgarded into trash if you try to drop it. Quest items are bond to person or group so they cant used by other people.

If A-net goes with that idea it would be too much like WoW. I say leave the game the way it is. Deal with the spammers. Whats is so hard about clicking a check box to not show a particular channel?

There's no law stating you can't in the EULA <It's not spamming, if it's a legit sale>
Plus! By now, you know usually the first 3 dists of ANY major city are spammed, thats why I hop into 4 on up. Use SMARTS, man! Instead of complaining about what they're doing, just don't go to dist 1-3!
Solves a lot of griping. I sometimes even use the regular LOCAL as a trade, seeing as Trade is spammed and local stands out over the spam of red as white..advertisement is key.

You're right. If people want peace and quiet they can go to higher number disctricts. I knew that before I bought the game. If they login just for the chat room, they can make a yahoo account.
They could change the color of the trade window, that subte red does kind of blend into the background and into other lines from other people, which is why alot of people will use the bright white of the local channel. It's why I do it.
If people want privacy they can also use guild or party chat.

yeah so if people want privacy, turn off local chat. thats what i do.
means i end up playing a singleplayer game on someone elses computer.
even if i dont want to use local chat to LFG, that doesn't mean I wouldn't like being able to just chill out in LA, or Droks and just have a random, meaningless conversation with a few of the people there. And I'm not gonna do that right now because any "hi how is everyone? " is immediately lost in thousands of "WTS, WTB, LFG, OMFG LEET GOLD BOW" crud.
Yeah it'd still happen if we have an auction house. But it'll happen less. 'Legit' traders (meaning those who would use the trade channel) probably don't simply because the rushing ones are already mopping up the market in local.
Not only that, a lot of us are put off trading by this. I find greens/golds/runes that I'd like to sell. But I don't want to stand around for an hour spamming local OR trade. I'd rather be able to go to an auction (perhaps with a 10-space limit or something) where you can put an item for auction. So that instead of waiting around with 10 wasted inventory/stash slots, I have them spare to keep something I'll actually use, whilst selling my item without any effort.
Right now everything goes free to mates or to the merchant. If I want to sell stuff I'll go buy myself a real world market stall

The trade channel dosnt work, as no-one has it on.(i dont trade, but if i did i wouldnt use it)
We need an auction house, and once its in place i say an auto fine for anyone who says wts wtb (other words) ect in local.
It would at least cut back anyone going. (cut back not stop).
IN auction house now x axe go see!!!!!!!!!

I wish they would add in like other games do where you can set up a "stall" and put asking prices to like 6-10 items and then people can come by, look at what you have and your price and either buy it or negotiate a price. This would solve everyone's problem. No need to spam your trades. Also, I believe trading in this game is a hassle. who wants to stand around going "WTS GOLD MAX DMG SWORD" when you could be farming? Allowing a vendor stall is a much simpler solution. They could even implement a sort of Idle detection that kicks you after an hour or 2 of sitting in a stall. Also they could set it up so you can only do stalls in a special district that you would have to choose to go in, or even only make it work in the international districts.
